For the past few years, we've made a tradition of seeing the opening night showing of The Nightmare Before Christmas at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood. This year, the festivities started at 7 pm instead of midnight, so we couldn't make it, but we did something even better to make up for it... we saw the midnight opening of Frankenweenie earlier this month! On the way to Hollywood, we stopped in Beverly Hills to see A Fine Frenzy play at Anthropologie (a separate post is coming for that, it was one of my favorite experiences ever!). So my usual plans of dressing up in a spooky way had to be altered a bit so I could attend the concert without looking quite out of place, and also so I could change in the car. As a result, the last minute Weird Girl costume I threw together left much to be desired, but I tried! Before the movie began, there was a trivia competition, a costume contest, and producer Don Hahn had a chat with Tom Kenny, who voiced characters in the movie, but is best known as the voice of Spongebob. We also got to watch a special creepy video Tim Burton made for the audience. After the viewing, we looked at props, sets, and other things used in the movie.

I wore a blonde wig for the first part of the night (see here & here), but then took it off once I realized there were some seriously amazing Weird Girl costumes that put mine to absolute shame. Plus it made for a more comfortable movie-viewing experience. If you haven't seen Frankenweenie, you just have to! It's beautifully made and it's a very lovely adaptation of the original short, so whether you've seen the original or not, you'll love it!
As for Halloween plans around here, with all that's been going on this month, I actually don't know how I'll be dressing up tonight. I'm trying to throw something together with what I already have. I didn't even get around to decorating the house this year! Though I do have a costume in the works for a party Saturday night. I hope you all have a wonderful and spooky night! If you're interested in taking a trip down Halloween Memory Lane with this blog, the Halloween tag is quite packed from years past. You can even see most of my costumes from every Halloween I've celebrated here.

Your posts about this theatre are always so much fun. All the events that take place there seem like a fabulous time. My town is so boring in comparison, haha.
ReplyDeleteHappy Halloween! :)
They definitely know how to put on a great event! Our town is really boring too actually, we have to travel out of town to do anything interesting. This was like 3 hours away from where we live, haha.
DeleteOh my gosh, I love your costume! You look awesome! That sounds like the best midnight premiere ever. I haven't seen Frankenweenie yet, but it looks so good. I'm excited to watch it.
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a great Halloween! :)

Thanks Mandy! It was so wonderful, and I think you will looove the movie!
DeleteThis post made me realize I haven't seen A Nightmare Before Christmas (or Frankenweenie for that matter)... something that needs to be remedied soon! Obviously I don't know anything about Weird Girl, but I love your outfit. Does that say something about me? Hehe. Beautiful pictures, as always!
ReplyDeleteAs in never?? You've gotta see it, for sure! I didn't watch it until I was in high school (my first time seeing it was with Jose when we first started dating actually).. when I was a kid I thought it'd be too scary (I was scared of everything, I would't even go in the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland until I was like 12 which is so ridiculous!). But it's an awesome movie! As is Frankenweenie, I don't know if I could say which one I like more, they're both so good.
Delete^ meant to say "The Nightmare..."
ReplyDeleteSuper cute post, and your dress is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I love that dress, this was the first time I'd worn it even though it's been sitting in my closet for over a year I think.
DeleteOh, you looked amazing! That's so awesome that you guys got to see it there and all the other things that came with it! I can't wait to see it, my youngest bought a Sparky stuffed animal and is super attached to it :) the guy dressed as Sparky is hilarious! <3

Thank you! Aw, that's so cute, I'd love it if when we have a kid they'd be into Tim Burton... fingers crossed! The Sparky guy was pretty funny, he was walking around on all fours and barking! I think the guy dressed as Edgar won the contest, but the Sparky guy won second or third place.
Deleteyou look totally like from tim burton's movie <3. love it!
